Inogen One G4: Innovative Oxygen Just Got Better

Over the past 15 years, the oxygen therapy market has been revolutionized through product innovations in portability. Inogen was one of the first to introduce a portable oxygen concentrator (POC) that eliminated the need for unwieldy oxygen tanks. Able to convert room air to almost pure oxygen, the Inogen One was smaller and lighter weight than a standard oxygen concentrator and easier to handle than tanks. Because it was powered by a rechargeable battery as well as by plugging it in to a standard electrical outlet, you now had the freedom to go anywhere, anytime. No more waiting for oxygen tank or liquid oxygen deliveries!

The Inogen One G4 Arrives

inogen one g4 portable oxygen concentratorInogen is continuing its commitment to innovation in oxygen delivery by introducing the fourth generation in its line of POCs: the unbelievably compact Inogen One G4. Now the smallest and lightest POC available with 1-3 settings, the Inogen One G4 still employs a proprietary intelligent oxygen delivery design that allows the unit to adapt to your oxygen needs. With both a shoulder strap and belt loop option and weighing in at a mere 2.8 pounds, the Inogen One G4 brings portability to a whole new level.

Perhaps most importantly, the Inogen One has the proven capability to provide oxygen for both daytime and nighttime use. Clinical studies verify that the proprietary intelligent oxygen delivery design as well as the highly sensitive breath detection of the Inogen One line of POCs make it a viable option for 24/7 use.

Inogen is a powerful trailblazer in oxygen technology with a full line of products:  The Inogen At Home stationary concentrator; the Inogen One G2 POC with 1-6 settings; and the smaller, lighter Inogen One G3 with 1-5 settings, its best-selling POC.

Portability is the Key

We know that physical activity is a key factor in staying healthy and happy. This is even more important to the COPD patient, where activity can slow the progression of the disease and help combat other commonly associated conditions like heart disease, arthritis, and depression. The ultra-small, ultra-lightweight Inogen One G4 gives you the freedom of movement you need to have the healthy lifestyle you deserve.

With the Inogen One G4, you can keep moving, continue participating, and never stop smiling!

What is the maximum flow of the G4?
What is the cost, total and monthly including accessories?
    I have excellent credit.
This will be used by my wife, 81 years old and on medicare.

    1. Web Admin Web Admin says:

Sig, currently the max flow for the Inogen One G4 is a flow setting of 3. You can view the cost of the different packages here: https://www.inogen.com/products/g4-systems/. Please call us at 1-800-678-5572 if you have any questions.

    2. Avatar Robert Dean says:

I bought the Inogen G3 a couple of years ago, but it is too heavy for me and I have hardly used it.

Is it possible to return the G3 for a G4?

      1. Web Admin Web Admin says:

Robert, I would call and speak with your oxygen specialist so they can go over all of your options. The Inogen One G4 weighs only 2.8 pounds. Please take a look at all the specs – https://www.inogen.com/product/g4-three-year-warranty-system/

    3. Web Admin Web Admin says:

The Inogen One G4 has a maximum flow setting of 3. You can look over the system at – https://www.inogen.com/products/g4-systems/.

  2. Avatar Marvin Cave says:

Do you have a continuous flow Portable? Pulse flow does not detect my wife's breathing on a steady basis; thus beeping is a result not appreciated in doctor's offiices or in church.

    1. Web Admin Web Admin says:

Marvin, we do not offer a continuous flow portable oxygen concentrator, but we have developed new pulse dose technology. The Inogen One is designed to be used 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The technology in each Inogen One is effective at providing the necessary oxygen for most ambulatory patients during all phases of daily activity and during sleep.

  3. Avatar Deborah Pinner says:

My mother is a mouth breather. She does not breath through her nose when she is under any sort of exertion. How does the G4 sense the breathing for those that are mouth breathers?

    1. Web Admin Web Admin says:

As long as her nose is not blocked the Inogen One G4 will deliver oxygen to her.

  4. Avatar Ali says:

It is a very interesting device, however can you please shed light on; how does the Inogen G4 compare to the Inogen G3 which could provide up to 1050 ml/min of 90% oxygen and 210ml/min per flow setting?

I have tried to look everywhere for this information but cannot seem to find it..

    1. Web Admin Web Admin says:

The Inogen One G4 is smaller, more lightweight, and has fewer settings than the Inogen One G3. Both portable concentrators deliver the same high concentration of medical grade oxygen at the same volume per setting: 210 ml/minute. However, the maximum output of the Inogen One G4 is 630 ml/minute (3 settings) and the Inogen One G3 is 1050 ml/minute (5 settings). You get the same performance out of both portable concentrators; if your doctor has prescribed a supplemental oxygen setting of 1, 2, or 3, either model should work for you. Have a great day.

  5. Avatar Barbara Sealey says:

I have the G4 and love it except for the fact that we need a backpack. Cannot bend over without it hitting whatever it is I am working on. I have the strap and put it across my body in the back and that also does not work. A normal backpack does not work either, it is to big and does not have the mesh that is needed for air flow. Please let me know when you will be getting a backpack made for this model. It is seriously limiting what I am able to do for myself.

    1. Avatar Leah says:

I just obtained my G4 and the current case has loop on the back of the case so that it can be put on a belt to wear around the waist, that might work.

    2. Avatar Rex says:

I am interested in a Backpack for my G4 as well. No brained purchase for me if they offered it.

Any plans for a backpack, Inogen?

      1. Inogen Inogen says:

Hi Rex, Thank you for suggestion. I will bring the idea to our product development team so that they can investigate further.

  6. Avatar Nancy says:

I just ordered my husband's 2nd Inogen unit, the G4. Our first unit was bought nearly 8 years ago and has been wonderful. It is still working fine but, so heavy, we decided to go with this one. These units are a Blessing. Quality of life is improved immensely with the freedom you have with these units. My wish would be that anyone, dependent on oxygen concentrators, would be able to use one of these Inogen units.

    1. Inogen Inogen says:

Hi Nancy, Thank you for the kind words!

  7. Avatar Malcolm Surl says:

I am thinking of buying a g4 to supplement my less portable g3 but the loudness of the beeps on start-up is enough to wake the dead let alone a sleeping spouse !
Is there a way of reducing the beep volume please ?

    1. Inogen Inogen says:

Hi Malcolm, Although there is no way to reduce the sound of the beep upon start-up, most patients are on oxygen therapy 24/7 which means there is little to no reason for you to turn off and on your G4.

  8. Avatar malcolm surl says:

I now have both a G3 and a G4 but want to use just one mains charger for both. Is this possible and, if so, which would be the better ?

    1. Inogen Inogen says:

Hi Malcolm, I'm not sure I understand your question. What do you mean by, "use just one mains charger for both"? If you are looking for an external battery charger that can charger either the G3 or the G4 (but not both at the same time), check out our DC Power Cable: https://www.inogen.com/product/g3-dc-power-cable/

The DC Power Cable can charger either the Inogen One G3 or the Inogen One G4 on the go, in a automobile cigarette lighter or auxiliary DC Power supply.

      1. Avatar Malcolm Surl says:

Thanks for the response but, as I originally said, my question is about your supplied Mains (AC) chargers and not DC.

The chargers for the G3 and G4 are physically different – the G4 much smaller so presumably less powerful. When I go away with both concentrators, I want to avoid lugging around both chargers too …… so can I take just one, and which one please ?

Incidentally, the link you quoted doesn't work – it simply lists international distributors, as do any and all other pages concerning accessories !

        1. Inogen Inogen says:

Hi Malcolm, We are sorry to hear you are having issues with our website. We will look into this immediately. In regards to your question, at this time there we do not have an AC charger that charges both the G3 and the G4. You will need to take both chargers with you when you travel.

  9. Avatar Rhea Atencio says:

Hi, I would like to ask how much does INOGEN ONE G4 cost?
Do you ship to any country? (Davao City, Philippines specifically)
And how can I order if ever I want to buy one?

    1. Inogen Inogen says:

Hi Rhea, Depending on the warranty and package you select, the range for the Inogen One G4 is $2,495 to $4,065. At this time, we do not have any distributors in the Philippines but we are always adding new distributors. Please visit our International Distributors page for more information: https://www.inogen.com/international-distributors/

  10. Avatar Al Hall says:

Question my father in-law has an Inogen G3 and we live in South Dakota elevation 3300' but when we go to visit family in Colorado 5200' he has a difficult time at the highest setting. Is there something that we or can be done? Thx!

    1. Inogen Inogen says:

Hi Al, Our portable oxygen concentrators are able to deliver medical oxygen up to 10,000 ft. elevation. Your father-in-law should use his pulse oximeter to make sure that his oxygen saturation isn’t falling below the acceptable limit as determined by his doctor. Should O2 saturation levels fall below recommended limits, he should call his doctor for the next step. For more information on pulse oximeters, please visit: https://www.inogen.com/product/pulse-oximeter/

  11. Avatar Alfred Butler says:

If I am using the G4 24×7 and have the AC charger plugged into the unit at night or when home, is it charging the battery while the unit is running? Or is it necessary to buy two batteries so that one can be charged independent of the unit?

    1. Inogen Inogen says:

      Hi Alfred,
Thank you for reaching out with your question. The battery is charging while it is plugged in and running. It works similar to cell phones and it will be topping off the charge.
      Have a good day.

  12. Avatar Jessica Wells says:

My mother's inogen is not detecting her breath. We have done everything the manual states to do. It is not even giving an alarm if she is not wearing it. It did fall off the kitchen counter yesterday. Please help

    1. Inogen Inogen says:

Hi Jessica, Please call Customer Support at 1-877-466-4364.

  13. Avatar M.D. D. says:

I don't need one of these, but I was thinking of my aunt when I seen this, I am just putting this out there, because it seems this is a common issue, finding a good way to carry it with you, so could you make and sell custom carrying cases? Example: Fanny pack style, back pack style and/or purse/bag style. It seems many are in need of such options as per some comments, so they should sell for the company while also alleviating this issue for the consumer. Have a nice day 🙂

    1. Inogen Inogen says:

Hi MDD, We do sell a backpack and a carry bag for the Inogen One G4 portable oxygen concentrator. If you or your aunt is interested in other designs, O2 Totes makes a lot of great ones that are compatible with the Inogen One G4 and the Inogen One G3: https://www.o2totes.com/collections/inogen-one-g2-g3-bags?afmc=1h

      1. Avatar M.D. D. says:

        Thanks! 🙂

  14. Avatar Mary says:

I recently bought the Inogen 4. While on the one hand, it is great, on the other I curse it every day when the cord gets caught on things and almost causes whiplash and when it falls down and hits things when I lean over. As others have requested, a backpack the size of the unit would be fabulous. The backpack that came with it it way to big.

    1. Inogen Inogen says:

Hi Mary, Thank you for the feedback, our Product team welcomes feedback like this. In addition to the Inogen One G4 Backpack, we have a smaller carry bag designed for the Inogen One G4. This might be better for your needs. For more information please visit: https://www.inogen.com/product/bag-g4/

  15. Avatar brett mazzone says:

Is the G-4 usable with a c-pap machine at nite at home or when traveling? If yes, do I need to buy an attachment or does it come with a standard purchase.

    1. Inogen Inogen says:

Hi Brett, While the Inogen One G4 is not CPAP compatible, our stationary unit, the Inogen At Home, is compatible with CPAP devices. For more information on the Inogen At Home, please visit: http://stage.inogen.com/product/inogen-at-home-oxygen-concentrator/

  16. Avatar Betty says:

If an Inogen g4 was purchased from an authorized dealer in April, 2018 and is now being privately sold, would the 3 yr. warranty still be in effect after being sold?

    1. Inogen Inogen says:

Hi Betty? Which authorized dealer did you purchase your Inogen One G4 portable oxygen concentrator from? You will need to work with the authorized dealer to determine whether or not coverage will transfer over to a new owner.

  17. Avatar Steve says:

I have been highly athletic in the past until I developed a hemidiaphragm paralysis. In order to bike or ski, I am able to breath up to 60 breaths a minute but eventually my SpO2 drops and I feel like I am suffocating. I think I would be much happier if I have supplemental oxygen for exercise. If I used the Inogen G4, would it still provide increased oxygen concentrations or sufficient pulse dose volumes when I am breathing 60 breaths a minute?

    1. Inogen Inogen says:

      Hi Steve,
The Inogen One G4 has a limit of 27 breaths/minute. I hope this helps answer your question.
      Thank you for reaching out.

  18. Avatar Mary says:

I have a G3. The single battery does not last long enough when I am out shopping. 2 quick questions:
    1. Does Medicare cover the price of a double battery?
    2. When I charge my G3 to 100%, turn it off and use my home concentrator, then go back 2-3 days later to use the G3, the 100% has gone down to 85%, without being used. Is this normal?

    1. Inogen Inogen says:

Dear Mary, Thank you for reaching out to us. To answer your questions, we do offer some of the rental systems with a double battery, but it is not necessarily a Medicare coverage/non-coverage. In regards to the battery, discharging is normal. Battery run time varies depending on the age of the battery, flow setting and environmental conditions. Please contact Inogen customer care center to determine if her battery is operating properly based on these conditions or if it is time for a replacement. The phone number is 877-466-4364. Thank you!

  19. Avatar cdg says:

Several customers have asked regarding the flow of the G4. Instead of replying with a useful answer (i.e. LPM), your agent tells us there are three settings, without telling us what the settings indicate, and thus meaningless. Further down, your agent writes "whatever setting your doctor prescribes". Doctors don't prescribe settings. They prescribe liters-per-minute (LPM). Why does inogen hide their specifications behind gibberish?

    1. Inogen Inogen says:

Hello and thank you for your comments. The oxygen output of a portable oxygen concentrator is measured in ml/min, which is the volume delivered in one minute of use. Our Inogen One concentrators then detect your breath rate and adjust this full volume delivered in one minute into boluses, or puffs, to give you the maximum oxygen with each inhalation. Each flow setting is 210 ml/minute, so the Inogen One G4 has a maximum flow setting of 3 at 630 ml/minute.

  20. Avatar mct says:

You still did not answer cdg's question. Your answer is still too technical and I also have been scouring the internet for an answer with no success. For example, on the G4, what does setting 1 equate to in LPM? Same for setting 2 and setting 3. Does setting 2 equate to 2 LPM?

    1. Inogen Inogen says:

You receive 210 LPM per setting. That being said, flow setting 1 is 210 LPM, flow setting 2 is 420 LPM, and flow setting 3 is 630 LPM. Please call us at 877-466-4364 if you have any additional questions. Thank you.

  21. Avatar sll says:

    how quiet is this machine?

    1. Inogen Inogen says:

Thank you for reaching out to us.
The Inogen One G4 is 40 decibals at a setting of 2.

  22. Avatar Joseph Leigh says:

Has the G4 been changed since the 2017 Model year?

    1. Inogen Inogen says:

We have added a bluetooth feature this year to the Inogen One G4.

  23. Avatar Peter Viveiros says:

I have been using a Simply Go continuous flow POC (on 2L) when I travel in hotel rooms and on a cruise at bedtime. Would a G3 or G4 pulse flows do as good a job. I am not on supplemental oxygen during the day, I only need to use it when sleeping

    1. Inogen Inogen says:

      Hi Peter,
Thank you for reaching out to us! I suggest you speak to your doctor about a pulse dose technology concentrator. We do offer a 30 day trial period, so if it didn't work out for you, you could send it back (minus a $99 restocking fee). Have you read the section on our website about pulse dose technology? https://www.inogen.com/oxygen-therapy/intelligent-technology-delivery/
Please call us or request a free info kit for more details. 800-695-7915

  24. Avatar vips says:

My doctor has prescribed Portable 2 LPM, will G4 work for me.

    1. Inogen Inogen says:

It should work for you as long as you are not prescribed continuous flow, but rather pulse dose. The Inogen One G4 goes up to flow setting 3. We would love to speak with you more about this, so please give us a call at 1-855-MY-INOGEN.
