After a complete respitory failure in Jan 2017, I was placed in a medically induced coma and air lifted to UCSF. I was on a breathing machine for 4 days. After waking up, it was quite apparent to me that my life had changed so quickly. Walking just steps was hard to do, let alone walk any distance without oxygen. After a week and a half I was transported home. My insurance co. provided an in-house oxygen concentrator with TWO four hour tanks that I could re-fill off the machine. I suddenly realized that going any where over night or for a weekend or longer was out. The machine was to bulky nor could I easily lift it into my car for transport. It also hit me like a ton of bricks that things I like to do were no longer available to me due to the constraints of dragging around an oxygen tank and it last just about 4 hours on a 2 liter setting. No walks on the beach as I love beach combing. No more walking up and down mountain streams for either trout fishing or heading to a favorite creek for gold panning. You just can’t pull these tanks around in that kind of environment. I was mentally sad, down you might say. My life changed in seconds after my attack in Jan.2017. I would have to give up the things I love, to include traveling. I was not able to haul this big oxygen concentrator up and down stairs of motels/hotels or even go camping. That was until I discovered Inogen. It was like a message from the heavens. Could this be true? A 2.8 lb P.O.C. designed for 24/7 use. That would mean travel was again possible over night or longer, stream fishing was again back in my life. In essence, I could go back to doing what I loved to do. This small oxygen concentrator might just be the ticket to freedom once again. I spent about a month researching various devices, reading testimonials and concluded the Inogen ONE G4 would be my bail bond for freedom. I ordered one, with the 4 hour battery and one smaller battery to switch out. It came with a plug-in wall charger for home, a car charger, four soft cannulas, quick setup manual, carry case to carry this light weight unit over your shoulder and most importantly to me, I could travel. No need to lug around big oxygen tanks. Simply plug into a standard wall plug and there you go. It charges the battery at the same time, delivering oxygen on demand. OK, the trip went well. Next, my wife and I decided to fly to Oregon to see our son, daughter-in-law and our young grand children. I printed off the form from the airline we had flight tickets for and took it to my pulmonologist for him to fill out and sign. When we got to the airport, handed the form to the lady at the ticket counter. She double checked to make sure it was FAA approved. It was. I was handed a tag for use in the aircraft cabin. No hassles, no nothing. Went smooth. Best of all, I was not dragging around tanks any longer. This little, but powerful oxygen concentrator has allowed me the freedom I was used to. The other important factor was when I called for information and finally placing an order, absolutely no high pressure sales. The representative assigned to me followed up, calling with a tracking number. Once the unit arrived, I called her per her instructions and she guided me thru the simple set-up of the machine. All in all, a pleasant experience from start to finish. Thank you Inogen. You gave me my life back.
